Microsoft has informed Freeserve that all Macintosh users running Internet Explorer may experience problems after 31/12/99. To find out more about the solutions click here.
Freeserve has been notified of a potential security issue in Open Transport (OT). This affects users of Mac OS 9 and Mac OS 8.6 for PowerMacintosh G4, iBook, and iMac (Slot-loading) computers.
Apple have provided a software update called OT Tuner 1.0. OT Tuner 1.0 switches off an option in Open Transport that would cause a Macintosh to respond to certain small network packets with a large Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) packet. This update prevents Macintosh computers from being the cause of certain types of Denial of Service (DOS) issues.
You can find out more and download Open Transport Tuner from Apple's Software Updates site.
Note: This is only for Mac OS 8.6 if you have one of the three computers mentioned above. It is for all Mac OS 9 users.
